Emma Evans’ Ripping Off Selected for International Exhibition at Millennium Gallery, Sheffield
We’re delighted to share some exciting news from the Prism Arts community. Ripping Off by Emma Evans has been selected for inclusion in the ArtWorks Together 2026 International Exhibition at the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield.
This major international festival runs from 24 January to 31 May 2026 and celebrates the creative achievements of adult artists who have a learning disability, are autistic, or both. Organised by ArtWorks South Yorkshire, the exhibition provides artists with under-represented voices a global platform to share their work with wider audiences.
A Standout Piece in an Ambitious International Exhibition
Ripping Off is a large-scale acrylic painting on a primed wooden panel. The work is part of Emma’s ongoing series, which uses a distinctive and deliberate process. Each piece begins with underpainting, followed by layers of paint applied over masking tape. The tape is then ripped away to reveal sections beneath, creating striking contrasts of colour, texture, and form.
Emma’s use of colour is emotive and atmospheric, with each work in the series evoking a different feeling. The physical act of revealing what lies underneath is central to the work, resulting in paintings that feel both bold and carefully considered.
This selection marks a significant moment in Emma’s artistic journey. Alongside this exhibition, Emma also presented work at the Brewery Arts Open earlier this year, making 2025 a particularly successful and visible year for her practice.

ArtWorks Together is an international festival that champions creativity, inclusion, and artistic excellence. The 2026 exhibition brings together over 70 artworks by artists from around the world, spanning painting, sculpture, mixed media, film, and installation.
The festival is designed to remove barriers to participation. There is no entry fee, selected artists are professionally exhibited, and the programme aims to challenge assumptions about who gets to be seen and celebrated within contemporary art spaces.
The exhibition takes place at the Millennium Gallery, located in the heart of Sheffield. The gallery is known for presenting major national and international exhibitions alongside work that reflects Sheffield’s rich creative and cultural heritage.
